Investigates and documents traffic crashes occurring within the City of Boulder. This includes responding to the scene of crashes, collecting information and evidence and completing official crash reports, applying relevant ordinances, issuing traffic citations, and testifying in court as necessary. May also perform vehicle inspections, damage analysis, and attend autopsies.
Performs traffic direction and enforcement functions. This includes issuing parking tickets on public or private property, directing traffic as required, investigating hit-and-run crashes, assisting and providing information to motorists, and responding to abandoned vehicle complaints. Performs appraisals to establish values for abandoned vehicles.
Updates job knowledge by attending training as required. This may include the following areas: investigation techniques, reporting procedures, crime classifications, state statutes and municipal ordinances, and departmental guidelines.
Other duties include the following: Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the city. Takes proper safety precautions to prevent crashes. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to city property. Responsible for knowing and complying with all city and department policies; participating in professional trainings and development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies.
